A Gentle Break Reminder App for Mac (2026)

It is easy to sit at a Mac for hours without moving. You forget to drink water. Your shoulders creep up. Your eyes get tired. A break reminder app is a small fix: it nudges you at the right moments so you look after yourself without having to remember.

Why break reminders help

Short, regular breaks are good for your body and your focus. Looking away from the screen gives your eyes a rest. Standing up and stretching eases stiffness. A glass of water helps more than you would think. The hard part is remembering, and that is all a reminder app needs to do.

What to look for in a Mac break reminder app

• Gentle, not naggy. A reminder you dread is one you will switch off.
• Choice. Pick which reminders you want and how often they come.
• Quiet hours, so it leaves you alone in the evening.
• Private. It should not need to read your screen or track your apps.
• Light. It should sit in the background and barely touch your battery.

A cute one that lives in your notch

PebbletsIO Notch turns reminders into a tiny visit. A little character peeks out of your notch, says something kind, and tucks away again. There are ten check-ins to choose from:

• Morning hello and wind down, to open and close the day.
• Drink water, hourly by default.
• Rest your eyes, every 30 minutes by default.
• Stretch, take a walk, and take a break, every two hours by default.
• Fix your posture, hourly by default.
• Battery low and plugged in, when they happen.

Every reminder is opt-in. You can set each one to repeat on a timer or arrive at a set time. There are no streaks and no guilt. It speaks five languages, runs entirely on your Mac, and never reads your screen. Pebby, the mascot, is free. You can find out more on the Notch page.

Prefer a pet that roams your desktop?

If you want a bigger companion that wanders your whole screen, the full PebbletsIO desktop pets for Mac do that. They are a different style: less about reminders, more about quiet company. Some people run both.
